St. Paul Winter Carnival: King Boreas Grande Day Parade canceled today

The St. Paul Winter Carnival’s King Boreas Grande Day Parade has been canceled.

The parade was to have happened at 2 p.m. Saturday and a cancellation announcement was sent out at about noon.

Organizers with the St. Paul Winter Carnival didn’t give a reason for the cancellation but federal immigration officials earlier in the day fatally shot a 37-year-old man in Minneapolis, prompting protests in that city. Also, the extreme cold weather continues.

“After careful consideration, today’s Saint Paul Winter Carnival Grande Day parade will be cancelled,” said organizers in an announcement. “We know this may be disappointing and appreciate your understanding as we prioritize the safety of our participants, volunteers, and attendees.

“Thank you to everyone who makes the Winter Carnival such a special tradition. We look forward to coming together in community at the Torchlight Parade on Saturday, Jan 31st.”

Cold weather prompted organizers to cancel kick-off events for the carnival earlier this week.
