Boston Police Blotter: School bus rolls over in West Roxbury
A school bus rolled over in Boston, but thankfully everyone got out safely.
“All of the students and occupants were able to evacuate the bus and there are no injuries reported,” Sgt Gregory Jones of the Massachusetts Police told the Herald.
The MSP, Boston Police Department, Boston EMS and the MSP Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section (CARS) responded to the area of 46 Enneking Parkway in West Roxbury at around 3:20 p.m. after receiving reports of the rollover.
The bus was not a Boston Public Schools bus, a BPD spokesman said.
The police did not disclose what school the bus was affiliated with or the circumstances leading to the rollover, with Jones telling the Herald “the crash is under investigation.”
Kids going postal
Two Lowell teens, aged 14 and 15, are charged with robbing a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier in Billerica by using a BB gun that looks like a semiautomatic pistol.
The alleged robbery happened Nov. 12, 2024, at about 1:30 p.m., according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s office. This month, investigators recovered the stolen mail key and arrested the two young suspects, who now face juvenile charges of armed robbery and assault with a dangerous weapon.
The DA alleges that the pair traveled to Billerica from Lowell with the express purpose of robbing a mail carrier. The defendants went to a central Billerica neighborhood and followed the postal carrier for a short time before making their move by striking him in the face, pointing the gun at him, and demanding he hand over his mailbox key.
Such keys, according to previous Herald coverage of mail carrier robbery, unlock the blue U.S.P.S. letter drop boxes and are a popular target for thieves looking for checks in envelopes.
Following arraignment in Lowell Juvenile Court, the teen defendants were released on personal recognizance under standard conditions.
Teen charged with murder
A 14-year-old Lynn boy was charged with the murder of an 18-year-old Lynn resident.
Jayden Maldonado is charged with shooting Lionell Isaac Martinez to death on January 8, on Jackson Street in Lynn, according to the Essex DA’s office. First responders found the victim “conscious and alert” when they arrived, but he succumbed to his injuries at Salem Hospital later that evening.
Maldonado was arrested Thursday and ordered held without bail. He is scheduled to return to court on March 20.
Man sentenced for 2024 fatal stabbing
David Adams, 39, of Dorchester, pleaded guilty Friday to fatally stabbing David Abrain, of Roxbury, on Aug. 23, 2024.
“To know David, was to love him, he would help anybody, he would give his last,” one of the victim’s cousins said of Abrain, who was an ironworker and father of four.
Judge Mary Ames sentenced Adams to 15 to 17 years in state prison. Adams pleaded guilty to a charge of manslaughter.
The DA says that Adams and Abrain were part of a gathering of people hanging around the 500-block of Talbot Avenue in Dorchester when they got into an altercation that ended with Adams stabbing Abrain with a knife.
Police say that surveillance video showed Adams fleeing the scene and disposing of the murder weapon in a storm drain.
Uptick in commercial burglaries
The BPD says that there is a growing overnight commercial burglary trend in the city since the previous Wednesday, Jan. 14.
Two of the burglaries occurred early Sunday morning between 3:30 and 5:30 at separate Southie businesses, both of which had their front glass smashed and cash registers stolen.
“These burglaries have generally taken place during the overnight hours, and all involved forced entry by breaking a front door or window. In each case, cash registers were either stolen or accessed,” the BPD wrote in a statement seeking the public’s help. “Several incidents also reported a suspect operating a scooter.”
If anyone has information on these burglaries or recognizes those featured in surveillance stills issued by the department, police ask that they contact detectives through the CrimeStoppers tip line by calling 1-800-494-TIPS (8477), by texting the word “TIP” to CRIME (27463), or online at Police.Boston.gov/CrimeStoppers/.
Quite the heavy sock
A 20-year-old Hyde Park man was arrested after police say they found an unlicensed Glock 23 .40 caliber pistol stuffed into a gym sock in his car.
Eric Barnes Jr. faces several firearms charges in addition to two charges related to the probable cause for the traffic stop that led to the vehicle search: unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. The stop was conducted by members of the Youth Violence Strike Force Unit, the BPD’s gang unit.

BPD responded to 255 incidents in the 24-hour period ending at 10 a.m. Friday, according to the department’s incident log. Those included three aggravated assaults, two thefts from vehicles, two vehicle thefts, and 24 instances of miscellaneous larceny.
