Loons complete first international signing: Colombian Mauricio Gonzalez

Minnesota United announced Tuesday the signing of 21-year-old Colombian winger Mauricio Gonzalez to a contract through the 2029-30 season with a club option for 2030-31.

Gonzalez is the Loons’ first international addition before the 2026 season starts Feb. 21 at Austin FC. MNUFC seeks two or three more players during the primary transfer window.

Gonzalez is not currently occupying an Under-22 Initiative spot but that status can change. He will occupy an international roster spot and will join the team once he receives his work visa.

“He is a young, dynamic player with real upside,” MNUFC chief soccer officer Khaled El-Ahmad said in a statement. “He has already shown strong technical ability, attacking instincts, and the confidence to take on defenders, along with a willingness to learn and improve. Our focus will be on integrating him the right way.”

Colombian reporter Pipe Sierra said the transfer fee from MNUFC to Tolima is $1.2 million, but that number could not be initially confirmed.

Gonzalez, who is listed at 5-foot-10, joins from Tolima in Colombia’s Primera A league, where he had five goals and three assists in 1,738 minutes during the 2025 season.
