‘Heartbreaking’ salute to Uxbridge officer

Law enforcement colleagues from all over the state showed up in Franklin on Thursday to honor police Officer Stephen LaPorta, killed while responding to a crash on Route 146.

“It was a beautiful service, beautiful ceremony,” Gov. Maura Healey, who attended the funeral, told reporters. “It’s heartbreaking when you look at little Matthew, who has lost his dad, and Shannon, who lost her husband.”

The funeral at St. Mary’s Parish in Franklin. He is survived by his wife and a 13-year-old son.
