Foxboro Public Schools under federal investigation for alleged Title IX violations
A Massachusetts school district is under federal investigation for maintaining policies that allow students to participate in sports based on their “gender identity,” not their biological sex.
The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights has announced that it launched an investigation into Foxboro Public Schools after receiving complaints alleging the district is violating Title IX.
Foxboro is one of 18 educational institutions spread across 10 states under investigation, the feds announced on Wednesday.
“These policies jeopardize both the safety and the equal opportunities of women in educational programs and activities,” the Office for Civil Rights stated in a release.
Foxboro Superintendent Amy A. Berdos did not immediately respond to a Herald request for comment Wednesday evening. Her district is the only Massachusetts educational institution under investigation.
The feds are also taking a look at Waterbury Public Schools in Connecticut, two regional school districts in Maine and Champlain Valley School District in Hinesburg, Vermont.
“In the same week that the Supreme Court hears oral arguments on the future of Title IX, OCR is aggressively pursuing allegations of discrimination against women and girls by entities which reportedly allow males to compete in women’s sports,” Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Kimberly Richey said in a statement.
“Time and again,” Richey added, “the Trump Administration has made its position clear: violations of women’s rights, dignity, and fairness are unacceptable. We will leave no stone unturned in these investigations to uphold women’s right to equal access in education programs—a fight that started over half a century ago and is far from finished.”
