Boston Weather: Warmer temperatures incoming, late week coastal storm possible
Boston will likely see a couple days with temperatures well above freezing in the coming week and may get a coastal storm heading into the weekend, according to National Weather Service forecasts.
“There is signals that there could be a coastal storm that comes in on Friday that could bring snow to the area, but at this time exact details are uncertain due to the lower forecast confidence,” said NWS meteorologist Torry Dooley. “But it’s something to be mindful of, as we go through the week, things are going to become unsettled, especially late Thursday into Friday. People who have travel plans coming up for Friday, something to definitely keep in mind.”
The forecast shows a chance of rain Thursday night, becoming snow later into Friday morning, although it remains “too early to get into exact details” of the potential storm, Dooley said.
The first half of the week is expected to be “fairly quiet,” the meteorologist said, starting with near seasonal temperatures Monday.
The high Monday is expected to reach the upper 30s as clouds increase throughout the day, NWS forecasts, with a nighttime low in the high 20s. The first half of Monday will likely be breezy, Dooley said, making the temperatures feel a bit cooler. Gusts are forecasted to reach up to 29 mph.
“Tuesday into Wednesday is going to feature some milder conditions,” said Dooley. “High temperatures are generally in the 40s on both days. Though on Wednesday, there is the better chance to hit near 50 degrees for probably the suburbs south and west of the city of Boston.”
Tuesday is expected to be sunny during the day and reach a high in the mid-40s, forecasts show. A slight chance of rain kicks in Tuesday night.
Wednesday is forecast to be cloudy and reach a slightly warmer high in the upper 40s, according to the NWS. Winds are expected to pick up Wednesday, reaching gusts of 20 mph.
“Late Tuesday night into Wednesday, things are a little unsettled,” Dooley said. “We’ll have a weaker system passing on through that can bring some light rain showers to the Boston area and perhaps some snow showers for the higher terrain of say, places like the northern Worcester hills, but not necessarily within the city proper Boston.”

A moderate chance of rain continues Thursday, forecasts show. The day is expected to be mostly cloudy with a high in the mid-40s, before the potential storm may arrive later Thursday night.
Dooley said forecasters will continue to monitor the system throughout the week.
“At this point, details are uncertain,” Dooley said. “But it’s something that folks are going to want to keep you know in the back of their heads.”
