A Southie man has been arrested and charged in connection with a deadly stabbing in Cambridge Tuesday night, according to officials.

Victor Rivas, 51, of South Boston, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon resulting in serious bodily injury after the fatal stabbing inside a residential building on Norfolk Street in Cambridge.

At about 7:52 p.m. on Tuesday, Cambridge Emergency Communications dispatched Cambridge Police, Fire and EMS units to a Norfolk Street apartment complex for a 911 call reporting a person had been stabbed.

Upon arrival, responders found a male victim with serious injuries. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

CPD and MIT police officers then found Rivas nearby, and placed him under arrest.

“The preliminary investigation suggests that there was an altercation inside the apartment between the defendant and the male victim, who are believed to be known to each other,” the Middlesex DA’s office wrote. “Both parties sustained injuries during the altercation.”
