Battenfeld: Democrats so Trump Deranged they’re defending the indefensible

What do the scandal-scarred Minnesota governor, the anti-semitic, anti-wealth mayor of New York City and a corrupt Venezuelan despot all have in common?

They are the faces of the far left Democratic Party, which is so blinded by Trump derangement that it has been forced to defend former VP nominee Tim Walz,  Mayor Zohran Mamdani and indicted Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro over the past few days.

Walz, under sharp scrutiny for his leadership over a billon-dollar child care fraud scandal, on Monday reversed himself and announced he would not seek-reelection as governor.

Walz had just announced in September that he was seeking another term, but the scandal over allegations of federal fraud in the child care industry was too much for him to continue.

“I have every confidence that, if I gave it my all, I would succeed in that effort,” Walz said. “But as I reflected on this moment with my family and my team over the holidays, I came to the conclusion that I can’t give a political campaign my all. Every minute I spend defending my own political interests would be a minute I can’t spend defending the people of Minnesota against the criminals who prey on our generosity and the cynics who prey on our differences.”

The embattled governor was referring to President Donald Trump’s attacks on Walz and the Somalians involved in the child care scandal.

Walz’s announcement prompted new speculation that he would somehow become more enmeshed in the criminal investigation into the child care fraud scandal.

But Democrats nevertheless continued to defend him and his decision.

U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who ran for president unsuccessfully, is reportedly thinking of jumping in the governor’s race now that Walz has been pushed out.

In one of his very first acts of mayor, Mamdani declined to renew executive orders defining antisemitism and others giving added security protection to synagogues and prohibiting city employees from engaging in the boycott and divestment movement of Israel – drawing instant outrage from Jewish groups.

The socialist Mamdani has been broadly embraced by Democratic leaders since winning the mayoral election last November, and in fact is one of the new up and coming left-leaning faces of the national party, along with U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu.

Mamdani has a history of criticizing Israel and supporting Hamas so it’s probably not shocking that he would take actions that are opposed by Jewish leaders.

But they are proof that his hatred of Israel would not stop with him taking over the office of mayor, which he won last November.

Democratic officials are so enamored of Mamdani and so hateful of Trump that they generally refuse to criticize him.

Democratic lawmakers, meanwhile, have lambasted Trump over his decision to capture Maduro, despite the dictator’s history of corruption, cruelty, drug trafficking and abuse of freedom of the press, and despite the fact that many local Venezuelans celebrated Maduro’s capture.

Members of the all-Democratic Massachusetts delegation in particular led the drumbeat of criticism of Trump’s actions in Venezuela, saying Congress did not authorize the military action.

“Venezuela posed no imminent threat to the United States,” said Rep. Seth Moulton, who is challenging Sen. Ed Markey in this year’s election. “This is reckless, elective regime change risking American lives (Iraq 2.0) with no plan for the day after.”

On CNN, his favorite go-to liberal network, Moulton went even further, calling Trump’s actions “insane.”

“What the hell are we doing?” he asked. “I mean we’ve got a lot of problems in America today, and invading, occupying, running Venezuela does not solve any of them.”

Rep. Jake Auchincloss, like Moulton a former Marine, praised the U.S. military forces but said Trump “has no authority to strike Venezuela (and) no strategy for a democratic transition…Republicans in Congress must now join Democrats to grab the steering wheel of Venezuela policy to prevent this capture from spiraling into a blood for oil war.”

Markey compared Trump’s actions to a “dictator.”

The fact is Markey and other Democrats are grasping at straws and taking ridiculous positions as they look for new ways to go after Trump, and apparently defending a dictator staying in power is one of them.

It is also not wise for Democrats to allow the far left to control their message, not to mention the fact that hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans are in the United States legally and they can vote.

Democrats seemingly think they know what’s best for Venezuela.

They support “No Kings” but apparently not, “No Dictators.”

Dems are twisting themselves into ridiculous positions or running away like Walz.

And Walz, last seen dancing on stage, is now dancing off stage in disgrace.
