2027 Ram Power Wagon Finally Gets the Diesel It Deserves

Ram has been on a bit of a listening tour lately, and the 2027 Power Wagon feels like the loudest “we heard you” yet. After years of enthusiasts begging for a diesel option that does not compromise the truck’s off-road personality, Ram is finally pairing the Power Wagon with a high-output oil burner. The headline numbers are exactly what you would expect from a modern Cummins heavy hitter, a 6.7-liter High-Output turbo diesel rated at 430 horsepower and a towering 1,075 lb-ft of torque. And with a 31-gallon fuel tank on board, Ram is estimating up to a 600-mile driving range, which sounds tailor-made for long hauls to remote trailheads.

Of course, a Power Wagon cannot live on torque alone, and the good news is the rest of the formula stays true to its mission. The hardware list reads like a proper off-road build straight from the factory: front and rear electronic locking differentials, a disconnecting front sway bar, Bilstein shocks, and serious underbody protection. Ram’s five-link coil rear suspension carries over as well, helping the big truck maintain just over 13.0 inches of ground clearance. The off-road geometry is strong too, with a 26.1-degree approach angle, a 20.6-degree breakover, and a 26.0-degree departure angle, plus standard Mopar rock rails for those moments when the trail gets a little too friendly with your doors.

Where this diesel twist gets really interesting is how it expands the Power Wagon’s “do everything” personality beyond crawling and camping. Ram backs the added grunt with a new 3.42 rear axle ratio paired with the TorqueFlite HD eight-speed automatic, aimed at handling that diesel torque more confidently while improving towing performance. For the first time, Ram is also offering fifth-wheel and gooseneck towing prep on the Power Wagon, which is a big deal for buyers who want one truck that can play in the dirt on Saturday and tow something serious on Monday. There’s also an available automatic-leveling rear air suspension, a feature that tends to make heavy loads and trailers feel a lot less dramatic.

The visuals do not try too hard, and that is part of the charm. A set of 34-inch all-terrain tires wrapped around 20-inch Satin Black wheels gives it the right stance without looking like a concept truck that escaped the show floor. Ram also sprinkles in Power Wagon bed decals, a sport performance hood, and subtle satin black Cummins badging on the fenders, which is a nice way of saying, “yes, it has the diesel,” without shouting it. Inside, the Power Wagon continues the Heavy Duty lineup’s move upmarket, with choices ranging from cloth seating to heated and ventilated leather bucket seats.

Tech and safety are baked in, too, which matters more than ever in a truck that might spend as much time on the highway as it does off pavement. Available goodies include a 14.5-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen, a front passenger display, and premium Alpine or Harman Kardon audio, depending on how serious you are about road trip playlists. Driver-assist highlights include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage, and surround-view camera systems designed with towing and off-road maneuvering in mind. The 2027 Ram Power Wagon with the Cummins High-Output diesel is set to arrive in the second half of 2026, and it starts at $88,470 including destination, which is steep but also pretty on-brand for a loaded, specialty heavy-duty off-roader with this kind of torque.
