Chelmsford man arrested for using stolen ID, selling cocaine across region
A Chelmsford man is facing fraud and drug charges after police arrested him for allegedly using a stolen identity and distributing cocaine throughout the region.
Billerica Police say Felix Garcia, 60, was arrested Monday after the department launched an investigation in November into drugs being sold in the area.
Garcia was taken into custody with 10 bags of cocaine totaling about eight grams, over $700 in cash, and drug distribution paraphernalia in his possession. Police during a search also allegedly found a fraudulent Puerto Rican birth certificate and Social Security card.
“I want to recognize the diligent work of the Billerica Police Criminal Investigations Bureau, which conducted a complex investigation to determine this defendant’s identity and to file charges,” said Billerica Police Chief Roy Frost. “Once the defendant’s identity was established, we were able to collect additional evidence and also obtain a search warrant. This work was professional, detailed, and involved multiple law enforcement partners whose support we greatly appreciate.”
Police learned throughout the investigation that Garcia had been using at least three different stolen identities while living at a home on Brick Kiln Road in Chelmsford, wanted on an active arrest warrant under one of his identities. An arrest warrant and search warrant for Garcia’s home were obtained by police in Lowell District Court.
Garcia was arraigned Monday on charges of identity fraud, possession or use of a false or stolen RMV document, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended or revoked license.
He was released on personal recognizance.
He will be arraigned at a later date on the drug charge: possession of cocaine with intent to distribute (subsequent offense).
Billerica Police were assisted in their investigation by Homeland Security Investigations, the Social Security Administration, the New England State Police Information Network and Chelmsford Police.
