Drake Maye enjoys nickname even if he and Patriots teammates don’t get it
Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has one of the more original nicknames in pro sports: Drake “Drake Maye” Maye.
He was asked about it in a sit-down interview with former Patriots safety Devin McCourty for the “Sunday Night Football” broadcast.
Maye said he didn’t know where it came from.

“I think it’s pretty clever,” Maye said. “I mean, it’s not very unique.”
Maye also said he and most of his teammates don’t fully understand it.
“The guys call me that in the locker room,” Maye said. “It’s funny. It gets you a laugh. Nobody really knows what it means, so I’m for it. I’m not against it. I think it’s pretty cool.”
One person’s theory: People with two-syllable names typically get called by their full names. It’s not “Drake” or “Maye,” it’s “Drake Maye.”
So, in this case, it’s Drake “Drake Maye” Maye.
