Karen Read attorney Alan Jackson is representing Nick Reiner, who’s accused of killing parents
A well-known lawyer around here is representing a new high-profile murder defendant.
Attorney Alan Jackson — who was seen all over local TV and on YouTube feeds defending Karen Read in her two trials — will be in Nick Reiner’s corner in Los Angeles court after the 32-year-old allegedly killed his parents Rob and Michele over the weekend.
Jackson was spotted at the LA courthouse on Tuesday, according to reports. He was asked why Reiner did not appear in court.
“Every inmate has to be medically cleared before they can be transported to court,” Jackson responded to reporters. “He has not been medically cleared. It’s just a procedural issue.”

Reiner was arrested several hours after his parents were found dead in their home in the upscale Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles on Sunday, police said.
Rob Reiner was the Emmy-winning star of the sitcom “All in the Family” who went on to direct films including “When Harry Met Sally…” and “The Princess Bride.” He was an outspoken liberal activist for decades. Michele Singer Reiner was a photographer, movie producer and advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. They had been married for 36 years.
Investigators believe Rob and Michele died from stab wounds, a law enforcement official told the AP. Police haven’t said anything about a motive for the killings.
Nick Reiner in the past has spoken publicly of his struggles with addiction, cycling in and out of treatment facilities with bouts of homelessness in between through his teen years. Rob and Nick Reiner explored — and seemed to improve — their relationship through the making of the 2016 film, “Being Charlie.”
Nick Reiner co-wrote and Rob Reiner directed the film about the struggles of an addicted son and a famous father.
Other than representing Karen Read, Alan Jackson in the past has represented celebrity clients Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey.
Norfolk DA prosecutors accused Read of backing up into Boston cop John O’Keefe, her boyfriend of two years, with her SUV, leaving him to freeze and die on the front yard of a Canton home where the pair was supposed to continue a night out after the bars closed that cold, snowy early January morning.
The jury cleared Read of killing O’Keefe, convicting her of just drunken driving.

In the wake of the trial, Jackson slammed Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox and called for him to be punished.
Jackson sent a scathing letter to Mayor Michelle Wu and the Massachusetts POST Commission about Cox — accusing the commish of being “caught in a lie” about ex-cop Kelly Dever, a controversial witness in the murder trial.
The POST Commission recently said Cox as the city’s police commish is “not a sworn law enforcement officer” so he’s not facing a disciplinary review from the state board.
