Ex-Celtic Kristaps Porzingis to miss at least two weeks with illness
Kristaps Porzingis’ ongoing illness will sideline him for at least the next two weeks.
The former Celtics center, now with the Atlanta Hawks, will undergo further testing and be reevaluated later this month, the team announced Sunday.
Porzingis has missed six of Atlanta’s last seven games and 11 of its last 15. He has not played in more than two consecutive games since early November.
“Kristaps Porzingis has missed multiple games while dealing with a recent illness,” the Hawks said in a statement. “To ensure he continues to make progress toward a full recovery, he will continue this period of limited basketball activities and evaluation for two weeks, after which time his status will be updated.”
Porzingis suffers from a blood circulation disorder called postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). ESPN’s Shams Charania reported he was diagnosed with the condition last season, after he developed symptoms in February that lingered through the Celtics’ playoff run. Porzingis said at the time that he and Boston’s medical staff did not know what was causing his persistent fatigue and lightheadedness.
Porzingis, an NBA champion with Boston in 2024, struggled throughout the 2025 postseason, then was traded to Atlanta in July as the Celtics shed salary from their high-priced roster. His diagnosis was not publicly revealed until October, when Porzingis explained his illness in an interview with The Athletic’s Fred Katz.
The 30-year-old has appeared in 13 games for Atlanta, averaging 19.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.6 blocks. He’s also missed time with right knee soreness this season.
The Hawks are scheduled to host the Celtics on Jan. 17, then visit TD Garden for the first time this season on Jan. 28.
