One Direction opener Camryn Magness killed in electric scooter accident
Singer Camryn Magness, who opened for One Direction during their early tours, died late last week after she was hit while riding an electric scooter.
The 26-year-old “Lovesick” vocalist was remembered as a “radiant force” in a statement Wednesday on her official Facebook page.
“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of our beloved Camryn, a radiant force whose voice, coy, and bright spirit touched so many,” read the statement, accompanying a video of Magness scuba diving.
“Whether beneath the waves or on stage, she met life with fearless energy and boundless kindness. … Rest in endless blue, our sweet girl. You are deeply loved and forever cherished. Please keep her family and friends in prayer as they navigate this difficult time. Camryn will live on in our hearts forever.”
A source confirmed to People that Magness died following the accident, the details of which are unclear. The Daily News has reached out to her team for additional information.
Magness was just 11 when she opened for Cody Simpson and Greyson Chance during their 2010 Waiting 4U Tour, having caught their eye via YouTube.
The following year, “Wait and See” — her 2008 collaboration with Blessed by a Broken Heart — appeared on the soundtrack for 2011’s “Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer.”
By 2012, she joined One Direction’s inaugural headlining tour, Up All Night Tour. The band brought her back the next year for the Take Me Home Tour, and in 2016, she opened for Fifth Harmony.
In early 2021, Magness — who went mononymously by Camryn — dropped her EP “Love Maps,” which featured tracks like “Dance With Somebody,” “My Love,” and “Song to Myself.”
According to Magness’ online obituary, she is survived by her parents, two siblings, fiancé Christian Name, and the couple’s dogs.
