Police Blotter: Quincy man gambled 25 years in prison for minor bank robbery

A Quincy man may spend 25 years of his life behind bars after pleading guilty to robbing a bank last year — a crime that netted him less than $1,000.

Glenn Legere, 46, pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court in Boston to armed bank robbery for a Dec. 17, 2024 hold-up at a Santander Bank branch in Weymouth.

“I want the money,” Legere allegedly told the only bank teller stationed to help the public before the bank closed at 5 p.m., which was minutes away. “I don’t play.”

Prosecutors said Legere, who has a history of robbing banks along the South Shore, wasn’t satisfied with the $947 in cash from the teller’s drawer and pointed out other cash drawers but the teller showed him they were empty.

Legere has previous convictions for bank robberies in Braintree, Hanover, Duxbury and Plymouth dating back to 2010, according to court records.

Armed bank robbery carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both. Legere entered into a plea agreement in which the parties have agreed to a sentence of between eight and 10 years in prison and five years of supervised release, but U.S. District Court Judge Julia E. Kobick is not bound to those recommendations. Kobick scheduled sentencing for March 10, 2026.

The masked thief

Police are looking for a man who they say swiped multiple credit cards from City Hall on Monday and used them to purchase goods in the immediate area.

Images released by the BPD show a middle-aged to older man wearing a brown beanie, a dark jacket that looks to be a pea coat, sweatpants and a light-blue surgical mask like those often seen in the COVID pandemic era. He also wears glasses and in the surveillance stills is wearing a white t-shirt and a scarf.

The BPD asks that anyone who recognizes the man to contact downtown detectives at 617-343-4571. People can provide anonymous information through the CrimeStoppers tip line by calling 1-800-494-TIPS (8477), by texting the word “TIP” to CRIME (27463), or online at Police.Boston.gov/CrimeStoppers/.

Young man shot, killed in Eastie

The Boston Police Department has identified 21-year-old Nazir Wallace of Cambridge as the victim in a Tuesday shooting in the first block of Havre Street in East Boston.

Officers responded to the area just before 6 p.m. and found Wallace suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital and pronounced dead there.

Police ask that anyone with any information on Wallace’s shooting contact detectives at 617-343-4470 or through the CrimeStoppers tip line, whose details are included in the previous blotter entry.

Arraignment date set for teen charged with setting BPD cruiser ablaze

David Antonio Moran, also known as David Moran-Chavez, 19, of Norwalk, Connecticut, is scheduled to be arraigned in the Roxbury municipal courthouse next Tuesday.

Moran was arrested in his hometown on Tuesday and charged with burning a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of fireworks, disturbing the peace, and conspiracy. Police say he set a Boston Police Department cruiser on fire during a street “takeover” on Oct. 5 around Massachusetts Avenue and Tremont Street in the South End.

Moran was the third person arrested for the chaos that early morning. On Oct. 6, Julian Bowers, 18, and William Cantwell, 19, both of Rhode Island, were charged with malicious destruction of property over $1200, disorderly conduct, assault and battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest. Cantwell faces an additional charge for possessing a Class D substance. Those two are also due back in court the same day as Moran’s arraignment.
