A statie has been arrested and charged with assaulting a child and with domestic assault and battery, according to police.

Mass State Police Trooper Michael Gagnon — who lives in Plympton — was arrested last week following an investigation by the Plymouth DA’s office, Plympton Police, and DCF.

State Police has since suspended Gagnon without pay.

“The Massachusetts State Police stands firmly against all forms of domestic violence,” a State Police spokesperson said in a statement. “When the Department learned of these serious charges, we relieved the Trooper of duty and suspended him without pay.

“We will follow the court proceedings as part of our ongoing personnel investigation and await the outcome of that process,” the State Police spokesperson added.

Gagnon was taken into custody last Tuesday at his residence by Plympton Police, with assistance from Mass State Police.

Gagnon was charged with aggravated assault on a child under 14 years old, and with domestic assault and battery.

His bail was set at $1,000, which was posted upon his release.

Gagnon has taken home more than $100,000 this year, according to state payroll records. That breaks down to $95,442 in base pay; $2,017 in overtime pay; and $5,467 in other pay.

Gagnon’s lawyer, Daniel Moynihan, said in a statement about the charges: “Trooper Gagnon denies the veracity of the allegations against him.”
