Mike Vrabel provides injury update on Patriots rookie Jared Wilson

FOXBORO — Patriots left tackle Will Campbell wasn’t the only rookie offensive lineman to leave Sunday’s win over the Bengals with an injury.

Left guard Jared Wilson left the game after the Patriots’ third offensive play. He was later ruled out with an ankle injury and was spotted in the locker room with a walking boot on his right foot and a crutch.

“Probably too soon to tell,” head coach Mike Vrabel said of Wilson’s status. “We’ll see how the week of practice goes or see how the rehab goes and see how he responds there.”

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported that Wilson suffered a high ankle sprain in the win and that he’s considered week-to-week.

Ben Brown replaced Wilson in the game, playing 68 snaps at left guard. Brown allowed a QB hit and hurry, according to PFF. Brown previously started Week 4 against the Panthers while Wilson was out.

“He was ready to go, but had a few plays. I mean, again, they all do. Everybody does. I thought he was ready to go,” Vrabel said. “I thought he was into it. Ben gives us great effort, and he was prepared for the opportunity.”

Vrabel said he doesn’t expect Campbell’s injury to be season-ending. It’s not ideal to go into the backend of the season with uncertaintly on the left side of the line, but all in all, things could have been worse if Campbell and Wilson did have to miss the remainder of the season with their injuries.
