Boston Police Blotter: Gun charges, shoplifting, assault
Boston Police arrested a 28-year-old suspect on firearms charges Saturday night in Dorchester.
Dequan Mitchell, of Mattapan, faces four gun-related charges, including carrying a firearm and loaded firearm without a license and possession of firearm and ammunition without a Firearm Identification card.
Officers arrested Mitchell after responding to a call of individuals loitering in front of a store around 146 Dorchester Ave. at about 10:50 p.m. When police arrived, they say an individual later identified as Mitchell quickly walked away from the group with his right hand holding something against his body.
Police stepped out of their vehicle to approach the suspect, who they say kept walking at a fast pace. After seeing that Mitchell had a black metal object coming out of his jacket, officers said they ordered him to show his hands. Mitchell allegedly refused to comply, zipped the object up into his coat pocket, and started to run from police.
Mitchell was pursued on foot by police to 63 Washington Street, where he was apprehended and frisked.
The officers say they recovered a SCCY CPX-2 with seven rounds in the magazine.
Mitchell was arrested and is expected to be arraigned at Dorchester District Court.
