Patriots add depth at running back, linebacker to gameday roster

The Patriots elevated running back D’Ernest Johnson and linebacker Darius Harris from the practice squad for Thursday night’s game against the Jets.

This is the third and final practice squad elevation for both Johnson and Harris. They would have to be signed to the 53-man roster to play in another game for the Patriots this season.

Johnson adds depth with running back Rhamondre Stevenson out with a toe injury. Harris fills a need with linebacker depth for Christian Elliss, who is out with a hip injury.

Expect rookie TreVeyon Henderson to start in place of Stevenson. Jack Gibbens should continue to start with Elliss out.

Tight end Austin Hooper and wide receiver Kayshon Boutte are also out Thursday night. Fullback Jack Westover can switch back over to tight end to fill Hooper’s role. The Patriots have five healthy wide receivers on their 53-man roster.
