Patriots running back ruled out of Bucs game with knee injury
TAMPA, Fla. — Add another name to the Patriots’ list of injured running backs.
Terrell Jennings suffered a knee injury in the first half of Sunday’s matchup with the Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium and was ruled out after halftime.
Jennings, an undrafted second-year pro who was recently elevated from the practice squad, carried four times for 5 yards before his injury. The 24-year-old was coming off the heaviest workload of his NFL career, having rushed 11 times for 35 yards and a touchdown in last week’s win over the Atlanta Falcons.
The Patriots already were playing without injured starting running back Rhamondre Stevenson, who missed his second straight game with a toe issue. Veteran Antonio Gibson has been out since he suffered a season-ending torn ACL in Week 5.
Jennings’ exit left the Patriots with just two active running backs: second-round rookie TreVeyon Henderson and elevated practice squadder D’Ernest Johnson, who signed on Oct. 29. Henderson was stuffed on two goal-line carries late in the first half but took his first handoff of the third quarter 55 yards for a touchdown.
It was the Ohio State product’s second career touchdown and his first since Week 4.
