Brazil October 2025: New VW Tera stuns at #2

The VW Tera is an instant blockbuster in Brazil.

248,118 new light vehicles hit Brazilian roads in October a small -0.5% dip. This is still a very strong result as October 2024 was the largest October result since 2014 (291.412). The year-to-date tally is now up 3% to 2,055,699, the highest at this stage of the year since the 2,176,147 units of 2019. The Top 3 carmakers are down by the single digits: Fiat is off -2.5%, Volkswagen down -0.7% and Chevrolet down -7.9%. Hyundai (+4.6%) is up, followed by a freefalling Toyota (-37.8%). Just blow are Jeep (+5.1%) and Renault (-6.9%). BYD (+37.8%) sports the largest gain in the Top 12 but stays at #8 while Caoa Chery (+30.5%) is back inside the Top 10 at #10. Below, Mercedes (+92.5%), GWM (+87.8%) and Mitsubishi (+33.9%) stand out.

Over in the models charts, the Fiat Strada (-4.1%) is a distant leader at 5.7% share, with the #2 year-to-date, the VW Polo, freefalling -38.9% to #5. The event of the month is the stunning 2nd place of the new VW Tera with over 10,000 sales and almost 28,000 since its launch in May. The model has clearly hit a nerve with Brazilian car buyers and is already the German’s brand best-seller in the country. The Fiat Argo (+7.2%) stays at #3 ahead of the Hyundai HB20 (-10.3%). Solid score by the Hyundai Creta (+11.8%) up four spots on last month to #6 and ascending to #7 year-to-date. The Honda HR-V (+23.3%) and VW Saveiro (+14.5%) also shine further down. Below the Tera, the best-selling recent launches are the BYD Song Pro (#44), Jaecoo 7 (#60) and GWM Tank 300 (#68).
