Gymkhana Returns with Travis Pastrana and the Wild Subaru Brataroo 9500 Turbo

Gymkhana is officially back, and Travis Pastrana is doing it in a reborn Subaru BRAT that looks ready to orbit. Meet the Subaru Brataroo 9500 Turbo, unveiled at the 2025 SEMA Show and built to star in an Australia set film with landmark shredding, huge air and trademark close calls.

Under the skin sits a rallycross derived 2.0 liter turbo boxer revving past 9,500 rpm with 670 horsepower and 680 lb ft of torque. A six speed SADEV sequential, motorsport differentials and all wheel drive complete the stunt ready drivetrain.

Vermont SportsCar designed a fresh chassis with a WRC spec cage, then wrapped it in full carbon fiber bodywork. Designer Khyzyl Saleem reshaped the 1978 BRAT into a radical widebody and finished it with a retro livery that channels Outback sunsets and kangaroo thumbs ups, plus sponsor hits from KMC Wheels, Mercury Marine, Yokohama, Heat Wave and Dixxon.

Active aero is the headline. Adjustable front fender louvers manage balance in real time on the ground or mid flight. Out back, two interchangeable wings handle the stunts. Both adjust angle of attack and can actuate upward to control pitch, and the larger wing even widens as it extends for extra stability.

The stance is pure rally theater on one off forged KMC monoblocks, 18 inches, wrapped in Yokohama ADVAN A052 or APEX rubber depending on surface and stunt.

Inside, the Brataroo nods to 1978 with a carbon dash and flax composite wood grain accents. A restored OEM radio, period correct Uniden CB and repurposed HVAC controls that now tweak the aero tie past to present with a wink.
Pastrana calls it completely unhinged in the best way, and the mission fits. This is his third bespoke Subaru for Gymkhana and the highest revving one yet, built to fly big and come back for more.

The new film titled Aussie Shred hits the Hoonigan YouTube channel in early December. If the Brataroo’s spec and aero wizardry are any clue, Australia is about to get fresh skid marks and fans are about to get their next favorite Gymkhana chapter.
