Cars outside multiple local gyms were reportedly broken into early Monday morning, according to police who are investigating the string of vehicle break-ins.

Gloucester Police responded to 12 Lexington Ave., at around 6:35 a.m. Monday, for reports of multiple cars being broken into.

Two cars had their windows smashed, and personal items — including debit cards — were stolen. The victims were in a fitness class at Freedom Fitness at the time of the thefts, police said.

Then five minutes later, Gloucester Police were dispatched to Fitness Zone, 37 Blackburn Center, for another report of a car window being smashed and personal items taken.

It was also reported that another vehicle was found near Dory Drive with its license plates stolen.

Then shortly before 7 a.m., Gloucester Police received a third report of a car break-in at North Shore 24 Fitness, 6 Whistlestop Way.

The driver’s side window was shattered, and personal belongings were taken.

Gloucester Police were actively investigating these incidents.

Police were urging anyone with information about the break-ins to contact Gloucester Police at 978-325-5400.
