Boston man accused of assaulting ‘elderly’ friend, stealing his Social Security debit card
A 66-year-old man is accused of knocking an “elderly” friend unconscious and stealing his Social Security debit card during the alleged home invasion.
Roxbury man Juan Blanco is being held on charges of home invasion, assault and battery on a person over 60 or disabled with serious injury, assault and battery on a person over 60 or disabled, and larceny from a building.
Around 1:30 p.m. on April 9, Boston police officers responded to a home invasion call at Bowdoin Street in Dorchester.
Boston EMS workers helped the 68-year-old victim, who complained about head and face pain. The victim had a swollen nose with cuts and dried blood inside and outside, as well as a swollen lip.
The man told officers that Blanco knocked on his door sometime between 11 a.m. or 12 p.m. The victim said he opened the door because he recognized Blanco and considered him a friend, though he wasn’t aware of an impending visit.
When he opened the door, Blanco allegedly hit him in the face with the back of a knife. The victim fell to the floor and lost consciousness.

The victim said he called police after waking up dizzy and in a pool of blood.
“The victim told officers that Blanco made off with his Social Security Direct Express Card, which was loaded with $1,000 and had the PIN written on the back,” the Suffolk DA’s office wrote. “Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Blanco after the victim identified him from a photo array.”
Blanco has a history of committed time on his record — as well as a multitude of assault and battery and assault and battery with deadly weapon charges.
“This incident has an added dimension of sadness given that the victim told investigators he knew and was friends with the person who attacked him and stole his social security card,” Suffolk DA Kevin Hayden said. “It’s hardly behavior one would expect from a friend.”
Last week, the judge ordered Blanco held without bail until this Friday when he will appear in Dorchester court for appointment of counsel and arraignment.
