Kiss cam fallout continues: Astronomer CEO put on leave
The company at the center of ColdplayGate has placed its CEO on leave, just two days after the kiss cam caught him with his arms around a colleague.
Astronomer delivered the news about CEO Andy Byron Friday night, hours after announcing its board had launched an investigation into the alleged cheating scandal.
“Cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy is currently serving as interim CEO given Andy Byron has been placed on leave,” the company stated in a LinkedIn post, around 9 p.m. Friday.
“We will share more details as appropriate in the coming days,” it added.
This all comes as Astronomer has had all eyes on it after Byron and HR head Kristin Cabot were apparently caught in an embrace on the kiss cam at Coldplay’s concert at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro on Wednesday.
“Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding,” the company posted on LinkedIn. “Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability.
“The Board of Directors has initiated a formal investigation into this matter and we will have additional details to share very shortly,” the company added.
Byron and Cabot’s alleged romance went viral when a video circulated of lead singer Chris Martin blowing up an alleged “affair.” When the “kiss cam” went up on the big screen in Foxboro, Byron was spotted with his arms around Cabot.
“Oh, look at these two,” Martin said of the cozy couple.
Cabot immediately puts her hands over her eyes in apparent shame and turns away, while Byron quickly drops down to get out of the camera’s view.
The crowd starts breaking out in laughter.
“Either they’re having an affair or he’s very shy,” Martin said.
A woman next to Cabot is seen smiling with her hand on her head. People online have been identifying her as another Astronomer employee — Alyssa Stoddard, VP of HR. However, the company is refuting that speculation, stating: “Alyssa Stoddard was not at the event and no other employees were in the video,” the company said in its statement.
