Massachusetts teenagers accused of yelling homophobic slurs at people in Provincetown
Three teens from Middlesex County are facing charges after they allegedly yelled homophobic slurs at several people in Provincetown, according to police.
Framingham’s Ryan Mahimtura and Hudson’s Henry Ward, both 19, along with another minor, have all been charged with two counts of disorderly conduct in connection with the Tuesday incident in the Cape town.
“… They allegedly drove through town threateningly with air horns yelling homophobic slurs from their vehicle at several people,” police said in a statement. “Additional charges may be filed.”
There was also a possible hate crime assault in P-town early Monday morning.
The victim reported being attacked by a group of three men who got out of a vehicle as the victim was walking in the east end of Bradford Street. That alleged assault is still under investigation.
“The Police Department will have additional officers on duty throughout the next several days to help look for suspicious and potentially harmful activity and be a visible presence in town during this busy holiday week,” police wrote.
“Residents and visitors are reminded to stay vigilant and report any suspicious or threatening behavior immediately to police by calling 9-1-1,” police added.
Town Manager Alex Morse stressed that hate will not be tolerated in Provincetown.
“These events are disturbing, and we share the fear and discomfort they are causing in our community,” Morse posted. “The Town and the Provincetown Police Department are taking these incidents very seriously and are actively investigating.
“After receiving a report of persons yelling homophobic slurs at people yesterday (July 1st) from their vehicle, police were able to quickly locate the vehicle, identify the suspects, and charges are in the process of being filed,” he added. “This event shows why it’s important to report information immediately to police. Our Police Department’s quick response should serve as a warning to those who come here to cause harm that this type of behavior will not be tolerated in Provincetown.”
