Massachusetts fireworks explosion prompts emergency response at Cape Cod country club

A fireworks explosion ahead of a Fourth of July celebration at a Cape Cod country club has prompted state fire investigators to respond to the scene.

The Massachusetts Division of Fire Services deployed code compliance officers and State Police fire investigators to the New Seabury Country Club in Mashpee after a “possible fireworks discharge,” according to a spokesperson for the State Fire Marshal.

The spokesperson had no further information as of 6 p.m.

Local news outlets on Cape Cod are reporting that the fireworks explosion near a golf course maintenance area at the country club injured several people. The explosion was reported around 4:30 Wednesday afternoon.

“Mashpee Fire Department and ‘all available manpower’ were requested at the scene, per dispatch reports,” the Enterprise of Mashpee has reported. “A MedFlight helicopter was requested for at least two parties.”

A pre-Fourth of July BBQ and fireworks show had been scheduled at the country club this evening.
