Van with 16 ‘elderly’ passengers strikes building in Boston, several people sent to hospital
A van with 16 “elderly” passengers slammed into a building in Dorchester Wednesday afternoon, as several people were transported to the hospital.
Boston police officers responded at 1 p.m. to a report of a passenger van striking a residential building in the area between 24 and 26 Rowell St.
The van was transporting 16 “elderly passengers,” BPD said.
“Multiple units responded to a vehicle into a building on Rowell Street in Dorchester this afternoon,” Boston EMS said in a statement. “Boston EMS transported 14 patients to area hospitals. All with minor injuries.”
Boston Inspectional Services responded to assess the structural damage, and BPD officers remained on scene conducting the investigation.

Meanwhile, Boston EMS has been incredibly busy in recent days amid the brutal heat wave.
Boston EMS reported that they responded to nearly 1,300 incidents from Sunday to Tuesday — with 55 being heat-related incidents. The most heat-related incidents were on Tuesday, when the temp at Logan airport hit 102 degrees.
“On Tuesday, #BostonEMS responded to 440 medical emergencies across the City. 28 of those were heat-related, involving patients aged 14 to 103,” Boston EMS posted. “More than half were under the age of 40. And that number doesn’t include the 64 patients treated by our crews working the concert at Fenway Park.
“It’s another busy day,” Boston EMS posted on Wednesday. “But we want to take a moment to send a huge thank you to all our members— from Dispatch Operations to the Field, Fleet Services to Special Operations, and every role in between. Your dedication during this brutal heat wave has been extraordinary. We appreciate you.”
