Orange Line shuttles from Forest Hills to North Station this weekend
Service suspensions on the Orange Line will continue through the week and extend further down the track this weekend as the MBTA works on signal upgrades.
Riders will have to use shuttles between Forest Hills and Back Bay through the week, and the shuttle service will expand through to North Station on Saturday and Sunday, according to the MBTA. Shuttles will be in place until June 29.
Commuters will need to give themselves a sizable amount of extra time if they plan on using the shuttle service during these periods.
“Riders using shuttle buses should budget ample extra travel time. For example, a rider traveling to Downtown Crossing from Forest Hills should budget an additional 30 – 45 minutes of travel time in addition to their regular commute,” MBTA officials warn.
The Green Line’s C Branch will be extended to serve North Station this weekend. The Commuter rail will offer fare-free service between Forest Hills and South Station, with stops at Ruggles and Back Bay. Standard commuter rail fares will apply past Forest Hills. Commuter rail travel time between Forest Hill and Back Bay is about nine minutes, according to the MBTA, with train service every half-an-hour.
The signal upgrades will give the T the ability “to significantly increase operational efficiency and improve scheduling reliability for all riders.”
Orange Line service is also scheduled to be restricted to shuttles between Wellington and Back Bay the weekend of July 26 and 27, according to the MBTA.
