Based on a review of video surveillance from the apartment and statements made, investigators believe that the only two people inside the apartment at the time of the shooting were Taveras and Santos.
Investigators learned from witness interviews that they had a relationship and a history of domestic violence.
In a search of the apartment, police recovered a Glock 19 Gen 5 firearm with an optic sight attached. The gun had an empty magazine with one 9mm round in the chamber. Investigators also recovered nine shell casings and seven projectiles from the apartment.
