Vietnam May 2025: VinFast VF 5 and VF 3 dominate, Ford Territory up to record #3

The VinFast VF 3 holds 8.8% of its home market in May.

Data by VAMA and Hyundai shows a Vietnamese new vehicle market up 8.4% year-on-year in May to 33,273 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 18.3% to 151,041. This month once again we have access to exclusive figures for local carmaker VinFast, leading to a May volume at 44,769 and a YTD tally at 207,228. Local manufacturer VinFast continues to dominate the market head and shoulders with 25.7% share this month vs. 27.1% so far this year. Toyota (+5.8%) easily stays in 2nd place with 12.7% of the market, followed by Thaco-Kia (+1.1%) and Hyundai (-17.3%) both underperforming. Honda (+25.9%), Ford (+24%), Mazda (+19%) and Isuzu (+18.6%) all shine below.

Over in the models lane, the VinFast VF 5 threepeats at #1 above the VinFast VF 3. The two models also dominate the YTD charts. The Ford Territory (+174.3%) has an outstanding month and climbs 9 spots on April to land on the third step of the podium, by far a record ranking for the nameplate with a previous best being #7 last January. The Mazda CX-5 (+62.1%) repeats at #4 ahead of the VinFast VF 6 up to #3 year-to-date. The Toyota Vios (+49.9%) and Toyota Yaris Cross (+19%) also stand out in the remainder of the Top 10.
