Austria May 2025: Cupra (+92.8%) repeats at record #5, market up 22.7%
The Leon nameplate (Cupra+Seat) would be #2 overall this month.
24,311 new cars hit Austrian roads in May, a fantastic 22.7% year-on-year surge. This way, the year-to-date tally is now up 10.3% to 115,183. Volkswagen (-1%) can’t catch up with the market growth but still manages 14.5% share vs. 14.4% so far this year. Skoda (+69.1%) is euphoric below at 10.5% of the market, distancing BMW (+24.4%) and Audi (+10.9%). Cupra (+92.8%) posts another stellar result, repeating at a record 5th place overall. Opel (+115.2%) is the biggest gainer among mass market carmakers, while Dacia (+24%) edges past the market rate at #8. Tesla is up 28.9% to #15.
Over in the models charts, the Skoda Octavia (+51%) reclaims the top spot it holds year-to-date ahead of a sinking VW Golf (-60.2%), leader a year ago. The BMW X1 (+82.2%) drops two ranks on April to #3, note 36% of the X1’s sales this month goes to the iX1 EV. The Tesla Model Y (+77.3%) surges back inside the Top 20 at #4 but ranks #13 so far this year vs. #3 over the Full Year 2024. The Seat Ibiza (+48.1%) rounds out the Top 5 above the MG ZS (+86%) breaking its ranking record at #6 and cracking the YTD Top 20 as a result. The Cupra Leon (+47.6%), Toyota Yaris/Cross (+42.2%) and Skoda Karoq (+28.4%) also beat the market below. Note sales of Cupra + Seat Leon would push the Leon nameplate to #2 this month. The new Skoda Elroq repeats at #12 while the Cupra Terramar is down 10 spots on last month to #18.
