The new model lifts the Maruti Suzuki DZire to its first win since January 2020.

New locally produced light vehicles in India are stable in May at +0.2% to 349,713. This is a third consecutive May record, just above the 349,057 of May 2024 and the 334,499 of May 2023. The year-to-date tally is up 2.7% to 1,871,233, also a new record at this stage of the year. Although best ever volumes, the overall growth rate is disappointing for a market with such potential. Maruti Suzuki (-5.6%) falls to 38.9% share vs. 40.6% so far this year. In contrast Mahindra (+21.3%) remains in 2nd place and at 52,431 sales delivers its second highest monthly volume below the 54,504 of last October. Hyundai (-10.8%) and Tata (-11%) both disappoint. In 5th place with 29,280 wholesales, Toyota (+22.2%) also lodges its 2nd highest monthly result below the 29,533 it reached in July 2024. Skoda (+133.7%), MG (+32.2%) and Kia (+14.4%) also impress.

Model-wise, thanks to the new model the Maruti Suzuki DZire (+12.6%) manages its first win since January 2020 and jumps up to #3 year-to-date vs. #8 over the Full Year 2024. Maruti Suzuki monopolises the podium with the Ertiga (+16.2%) and Vitara Brezza (+9.7%) also in great shape. Leader last month, the Hyundai Creta (+1.4%) falls to #4 but still ranks #2 year-to-date. The Mahindra Scorpio (+5%) repeats at a record 5th place, also reached last September. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx (+7.1%) and Tata Nexon (+14.3%) are the only additional gainers in the Top 10. The Skoda Kylaq (#27) is the best-selling recent launch ahead of the MG Windsor (#32), Kia Syros (#33) and Tata Curvv (#35).
