Colombia May 2025: Toyota and Corolla Cross take charge, sales up 33.1%

The Toyota Corolla Cross is the most popular vehicle in Colombia in May.

The Colombian new vehicle market continues on its great run in May, with sales up a whopping 33.1% year-on-year to 19,729. This is the highest monthly volume of the year so far. The year-to-date tally is now up 23.1% to 87,033. This month Toyota (+28.8%) is the most popular carmaker for the first time since last September, distancing Kia (+26.2%) and Renault (+23.6%). Renault however remains in the lead so far this year. Mazda (+46.3%) beats the market at #4 whereas Chevrolet (-1.7%) endures the only year-on-year drop in the Top 20. Below, Suzuki (+4.5%) and Nissan (+10.4%) disappoint but Hyundai (+139.8%) and most spectacularly BYD (+644.7%) stun.

Over in the models charts, the Toyota Corolla Cross (+160.4%) takes the lead for the 2nd time in the past three month with 4.8% share vs. 3.6% so far this year. The Kia K3 (+53.6%) remains at #2 but leads year-to-date while the Mazda CX-30 (+33.3%) drops two spots on last month to #3. The Foton BJ (+114%) impresses at #4 while the Renault Duster (-12.4%), leader a year ago, underperforms. Below a Mazda2 in excellent shape (+58.1%), the new BYD Yuan Up is up to a record 7th place overall, also reached last December. As for the other newcomer in the Top 10, the Renault Kardian, it is down four ranks on April to a still very satisfying 9th spot.
