A ‘vigorous and open dialogue’: Sens. Fetterman and McCormick to debate at Kennedy Institute
A couple of lawmakers from the Keystone State are coming to Boston for what is billed as a “bipartisan” debate over current events.
U.S. Sen. John Fetterman, a Democrat, and his Republican colleague U.S. Sen. David McCormick will meet at the Kennedy Institute early in the morning for a discussion moderated by “Fox News Sunday” anchor Shannon Bream, according to debate organizers the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate and the Orrin G. Hatch Foundation.
“Vigorous and open dialogue is an essential part of our democracy and having these two senators from opposite sides of the aisle discuss important issues of the day is a valuable contribution to the public discourse,” Kennedy Institute Chairman Bruce Percelay said in a statement.
The debate, which takes place in a replica installment of the U.S. Senate floor, represents the sixth in an initiative the groups have dubbed “The Senate Project.”
“The Senate Project series continues to underscore the importance of bipartisan dialogue. This unique partnership between the Orrin G. Hatch Foundation and the Edward M. Kennedy Institute is a model for achieving civility and solutions. We are thrilled that Senators McCormick and Fetterman have agreed to participate,” Hatch Foundation Executive Director Matt Sandgren said.
The event takes place at 9 a.m. and will be live streamed on FOX Nation. Portions of the event will be included in the evening broadcast of FOX New Channel’s “Special Report” from 6 to 7 p.m.
The meeting between Pennsylvania’s pair of upper-chamber politicians follows past debates by South Carolina’s Republican U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham and Vermont’s Independent U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders as well as New Hampshire’s Democratic U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen and her conservative colleague from Iowa, U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst, among others.
