Red Sox lineups: Struggling veteran gets day off in series finale

Trevor Story has been stuck in a rut for weeks now, and Sunday the struggling veteran will get a chance to take a step back and reset.

Story is not in the lineup for the Red Sox’s series finale against the Baltimore Orioles. The shortstop is currently batting .227 with a .607 OPS on the season, and since April 22 he’s 14 for 111 (.126) with two extra-base hits and 39 strikeouts in 28 games.

David Hamilton will start at shortstop in his place as Boston aims to take three out of four from Baltimore.

Top prospect Marcelo Mayer, who made his MLB debut on Saturday, is back in the lineup again and will start at third base. Kristian Campbell is starting at second and batting fifth and Abraham Toro is starting at first base.

Walker Buehler (4-1, 4.00) is set to take the mound against Orioles right-hander Dean Kremer (3-5, 5.50). Buehler is well rested after pitching only 2.1 innings in his last outing, during which he was ejected for arguing with the umpire after a blown call.

With a win the Red Sox can clinch a winning record on their currently 10-game homestand. Entering the day Boston is 5-4 after going 1-2 against Atlanta, 2-1 against the New York Mets and 2-1 through its first three games against Baltimore.
