Honoring Massachusetts’ Fallen Heroes (Photos)
Boston kicked off Memorial Day weekend with a rededication of the Seaport’s memorial to the Commonwealth’s fallen heroes.
It was Saturday’s capstone of the group Massachusetts Fallen Heroes’ “Patriot Week,” which began a week earlier.
The organization describes itself as “a group of Combat Veterans who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, we are committed to memorializing our fellow service members who did not return home to their families.
“So far, we’ve raised funds, created a first-of-its-kind memorial, developed the Veteran’s Edge program to assist Veterans, and created a network of support and programs for our Gold Star Families.”
The Memorial in Boston’s Seaport neighborhood broke ground in 2014 and centers around the Beacon of Honor, a 50-foot obelisk with five sides to signify the various military branches.
