Hailey Bieber feared for her life due to postpartum hemorrhage
Hailey Bieber says she feared for her life just after giving birth when she suffered a potentially deadly postpartum hemorrhage.
The Rhode founder, 28, said in the cover interview for Vogue’s summer issue that despite spending the entirety of her pregnancy preparing to deliver son Jack — through workouts and holistic approaches like yoga, breathing exercises, pelvic-floor therapy and acupuncture — “giving birth was the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”
“That s–t was so crazy. That was not fun. They broke my water. I went into labor and I labored for a few hours. No epidural, nothing,” Bieber said of the 18-hour delivery, having been induced at 39 weeks, when she began leaking amniotic fluid.

But Bieber got “a little freaked out” when she didn’t stop bleeding afterward, as such postpartum hemorrhages can indeed prove fatal when not treated promptly.
“I trust my doctor with my life, and so I had peace that I knew she would never let anything happen to me,” she recalled. “But I was bleeding really badly, and people die, and the thought crosses your mind.”
Bieber “wanted to hold my baby” during the hours doctors worked to clot the bleeding, which they ultimately did after the painful insertion of a Jada device that triggers uterine contractions.
Still, she said she hopes to expand her family with Justin Bieber further.
In 2022, the Biebers both experienced health scares. Justin suffered a bout of partial facial paralysis due to the rare disorder Ramsay Hunt Syndrome.
Hailey, meanwhile, suffered what’s known as a mini-stroke, and underwent surgery to close an opening in her heart.
