Cape Cod sheriff’s cadet on unpaid leave after allegedly stabbing man
A Cape Cod woman in the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office recruit training academy has been placed on leave as she awaits a dangerousness hearing in connection with an alleged off-duty stabbing over the weekend.
Tatiana Jacobs, 26, of Hyannis, is being held without bail after being arraigned Monday on a charge of armed assault to murder, and she’s scheduled to appear in Orleans District Court again on Friday.
Jacobs is a provisional employee for the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office, a cadet in training. The office placed her on unpaid administrative leave pending the criminal investigation.
Jacobs is accused of stabbing a 33-year-old Harwich man.
Massachusetts State Police troopers responded to Route 6 in Harwich at about 8:15 Sunday night for a report that a person had fallen out of a vehicle, according to Cape and Islands District Attorney Robert Galibois.
After arriving at the scene, troopers noticed a man lying on his back and around blood, which Galibois described as a “large pool of reddish-brown substance.” Troopers also saw the man suffering from “multiple injuries to his upper body.”
Galibois did not disclose the identity of the victim, who emergency responders flew to a Boston area hospital for treatment.
The DA added that the initial investigation found that Barnstable police responded just 20 minutes beforehand to a “reported disturbance of a man and woman fighting in a parking lot.” Witnesses told officers that the individuals had left the scene before they arrived.
“Officers observed a vehicle in the parking lot that had a smashed windshield and all four tires flattened,” a release states. “The tires appeared to have been flattened due to slice or puncture marks in the tires with a sharp object. The vandalized vehicle belongs to the victim found in Harwich.”
