Boston City Hall staffers charged in alleged domestic incident ‘terminated’

Two city hall staffers arrested and charged on domestic assault allegations have been fired, according to Boston Mayor Michelle Wu’s office.

The two city employees — Marwa Khudaynazar, 27, chief of staff for the Office of Police Accountability and Transparency, and Chulan Huang, 26, neighborhood business manager for the Office of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion — were arrested and charged in an alleged domestic violence incident last week.

In addition, Khudaynazar was charged with assault on a police officer. They both entered pleas of not guilty during arraignments last Thursday at Boston Municipal Court.

“After completing an internal review, the employment of both individuals has been terminated by the City,” Wu’s office said in a statement. “The review found no violations of laws or City workforce policies by any other City employees.”

The arrests have raised a clamor of criticism of Wu’s administration and operations at City Hall.

City Councilor Ed Flynn on Sunday called for an investigation into the charges and said that Wu Cabinet member, Segun Idowu, Chief of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion, should be terminated or fired.

Flynn did not specify what he was calling for Idowu’s ouster except by saying the cabinet chief, “failed to provide positive and ethical leadership to its employees, businesses and Boston residents.”

Idowu was not named in the police report surrounding the incident but Huang works in the department he leads.

Flynn’s call was echoed Monday by Josh Kraft, a candidate for mayor challenging Wu.

“The public deserves more information,” Kraft said.
