Red Sox lineups: Looking for a repeat performance from Lucas Giolito

After Lucas Giolito’s excellent start in Kansas City last Sunday, the Red Sox are hoping for more of the same in Game 2 against the visiting Atlanta Braves on Saturday night.

Giolito’s third start of the season was his deepest and most effective yet; he held the Royals to two hits and one earned run, with five strikeouts over 6.2 innings.

A bounce-back performance is in order from nearly everyone else, though. The Red Sox are 5-10 in their last 15 games, after going 10-5 in the previous 15. A loss on Saturday would not only put them three games under .500, but extend their losing streak to five games for the first time this season.

The Braves have a familiar face leading off for them on Saturday. Alex Verdugo, who signed a one-year, $1.5 million deal with Atlanta late in spring training, will be atop the visiting lineup. After being traded to the Yankees in December ’23, Verdugo was successful in six games at Fenway last season, going 11 for 29 (.379) with four doubles and a home run.
