South Africa April 2025: Mahindra (+43.1%), Hyundai (+40.9%), GWM (+30.1%) help lift market up 11.9%

Mahindra sales are up 43.1% year-on-year in April.

New vehicle sales in South Africa grow by a solid 11.9% year-on-year in April to 42,401 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 10.6% to 186,433. Out of the monthly total, 37,258 units or 87.9% represent dealer sales, 7% are sales to rental companies, 2.7% to industry corporate fleets and 2.5% to government. Toyota (+21.3%) and Suzuki (+22.2%) maintain their grip on the manufacturers ranking just as the Volkswagen Group (-16.5%) craters. Mahindra (+43.1%), Hyundai (+40.9%) and GWM (+30.1%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10. 

The Toyota Hilux (+32.8%) holds onto the models top spot with a dominant 6.6% share. It is followed by the Suzuki Swift (+19%) up three spots on last month to #2 while the Ford Ranger (-16.6%) closes out the podium but is in a bad way. The Toyota Corolla Cross (+0.7%) advances to 4th place head of a surging Hyundai Grand i10 (+62.7%). The Suzuki Fronx (+429.5%) does even better and reaches a record 7th place, its previous best being #10 reached in October 2024 and last February. Notice also the GWM Haval Jolion (+56.9%) and Chery Tiggo 4 Pro (+16.1%). The Omoda C5 (+128.8%) advances to #22.
