Red Sox game postponed due to weather, doubleheader slated for Saturday
The Red Sox series opener against the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field has been postponed due to inclement weather, the Guardians announced Friday evening.
The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader on Saturday. Friday’s rescheduled game will begin at 1:10 p.m. and the originally scheduled night game will start at 6:10 p.m.
Friday’s original pitching matchup was scheduled to be Tanner Houck vs. Ben Lively, and Saturday night’s pitchers were expected to be Walker Buehler and Logan Allen. Shortly after the postponement was announced the Red Sox announced that Houck and Buehler will still take the mound for their original games and the club will not use a spot starter.
The Red Sox were initially scheduled to open their six-game road trip at Progressive Field in Cleveland on Friday before rain moved through the area. Boston (14-13) comes into the weekend having lost two straight, while Cleveland (14-10) entered the day second in the AL Central and having won five of their last six games, including two out of three against the New York Yankees.
