Division 3-4 girls lacrosse preview: Medfield looking to capture another title

Outside Medfield High School is a wall adorned with plaques commemorating the school’s championship teams. In two of the last three seasons, the Warriors have held the gold trophy in Division 3 and are ready to try and put another title banner up.

Coach Mary Laughna’s squad may have lost a talented senior class, led by current Boston College player Kelly Boyle, but the Warriors still have plenty of talent returning. Leading the way are senior captains Maeve Kelly and Kendall Herrick, along with junior middie Izzy Kittredge. Junior Athena Polechronis steps into the breach between the pipes.

Newburyport came up two goals short last season of defending its Division 3 title, but the Clippers are back to try and make another run deep into June.

Coach Kate Fox and Foxboro will contend in the Hockomock League again led by Furman-bound senior Cate Noone. Fellow seniors Hannah Higgins and Audrey Campbell also will help lead the Warriors. Senior leadership will also be the story in Bedford as coach Nikki Cutter has a quartet of seniors in Sam Kinch, Caroline Luongo, Finley Halloran and Emma Dubrowski leading the Buccaneers. Junior attacker Tara Yerardi will also help shoulder the load.

Wayland is led by Vermont commit Jillian Mele along with Dual County League all-star Finley Knapp and Jane Tardiff. Ashland senior Paige Tripp had 34 goals last season for the Clockers.

Division 4

Cohasset steamed to a state title last season, but will have a new yet familiar coach on the sideline this season.

Kara Connerty comes over from South Shore League rival Norwell to assume the reins of a senior-laden team that’s led by UMass commit Kate Greer. Senior middies Reese Hansen and Libby Schipman and defender Kylie Newman also return.

Norwell is set to make another run at a title, led by senior attackers Charlise Cox and Margot Bonnevie. Midfielders Caroline Burtch and Holly Pantilla also are back for the Clippers.

Nantucket enters its final season under the tutelage of Jami Lower with plenty of firepower on the island. Seniors Mayson Lower, Suz Peraner and Maddie Lombardi hope to lead the Whalers to a long tourney run.

Ipswich and coach Allie Tivnan came up just short of a title last season, but an experienced core, led by Lucy and Allie Wile, along with senior Lucy Winthrop and Lyla Greenleaf, have the Tigers back for another run. Cape Ann League rival Manchester Essex is backstopped by North Carolina-bound netminder Brigid Carovillaro, while Hamilton-Wenham returns a 77-goal scorer in junior Evie Bernard.

Sandwich may be the deepest team in the entire division as nearly its entire roster returns. Leading the way are seniors Kyla Dorman and Avery Cobban. Freshman Quinn Anderson is already in her third year of varsity experience.
