Ticker: Sal’s Pizza to celebrate 35 years in business with a pizza-eating contest; Delta walks back record year talk

Sal’s Pizza will celebrate 35 years in business Friday with, what else, a pizza-eating contest.

The winner takes home $1,000 if they can beat out 34 others in eating a 3-pound, 19-inch extra-large pizza the fastest. The contest will be held at Sal’s Pizza on Brookline Avenue in Boston starting at 5:30 p.m.

There is a $15 entry fee per participant, and spectators can attend for free. There will be an-on site raffle to give away three pairs of premium seats to any regular-season Boston Red Sox game. Pepsi will also be on hand sampling new products. Sign-ups are available at www.sals.com. Participants must be over 18.

Sal Lupoli opened his first pizza store in Salem, NH and now has 130 locations. Participants will have 10 minutes to finish the 19-inch extra-large pie, with the option to drink or dunk the pizza in any beverage of choice.

Delta walks back record year talk

Delta Air Lines, which believed as recently as January that it was on track for its best financial year in company history, said Wednesday that disruptions in global trade have created such enormous uncertainty that it scratched its performance expectations for 2025.

It is a remarkable walk-back for the nation’s most profitable airline, and other companies are following suit. Hours after Delta remove its guidance for the year, Walmart dropped the first quarter operating profit guidance it had provided to investors, citing tariff risks.

Delta is cutting its flight schedule in anticipation of a slowdown in spending as businesses and households brace for higher prices.
