Boston’s 100.7 WZLX rolls out new morning show after Rich Shertenlieb experiment

It’s the dawn of a new day at 100.7 WZLX.

After the classic rock station tried sports talk, the Boston radio station has announced a new morning show with some familiar names.

The Chuck Nowlin Morning Show” is set to debut this coming Monday, hosted by the longtime radio veteran who has been in the afternoon for decades.

PJoining Nowlin will be well-known radio personality Danielle Murr, who was previously with Greg Hill on WAAF and then WEEI.

The new WZLX morning show will also include program director Chris Tyler.

“After the longest trainee program in the history of industry, I am moving from the afternoons to mornings, starting Monday morning at 6 a.m., with ‘The Chuck Nowlin Morning Show,’ with Danielle Murr,” Nowlin said in the announcement video.

“I’m honestly not sure how they dragged me back into this,” Murr quipped.

“I think it was money,” Nowlin responded.

“It was not money,” Murr said, drawing a big laugh from Nowlin.

Kenny Young, who has been in the mornings on WZLX, will be moving to the afternoons.

These changes at WZLX come after the experiment into sports talk with Rich Shertenlieb, who was previously with 98.5 The Sports Hub.

Shertenlieb, who was a successful host on 98.5 for many years before splitting up with Fred Toucher, launched the sports show on the classic rock station last May — along with co-hosts Michael Hurley, Ted Johnson and others.

The ratings for Shertenlieb’s new show at WZLX ended up being brutal, and the show only lasted for less than half a year.

“When we launched the show at the end of May, the plan was simple,” Shertenlieb wrote about the end of the show. “We would take the months of Summer to build chemistry with the new cast and by Fall and football season, we would be close to sounding what our vision of the show would be.

“However, just over two months into the show, management decided to alter the format,” he added. “They wanted music, I did not. However despite my disagreement about the decision, I agreed to move forward and music was added… Thank you to iHeart for the opportunity. Just because we didn’t have the same vision doesn’t mean I don’t thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me a chance to assemble the team I’ve always wanted to work with.”

One segment that the new morning show crew teased on Wednesday will be called, “Am I The A-Hole?”

“I am brutally honest with people, so I have no problem putting them in their places,” Murr said, adding, “Throughout my career, I’ve been considered the voice of reason. You know, we can joke around, but at the end of the day, I’m going to put the hammer down and say, ‘Look, let’s stop being idiots.’ ”

Listeners will be asked to call in every day, during the segment called, “The Check-In With Chuck.”

Also, listeners will help the hosts pick different songs to play, and maybe share what the songs mean to them.
