Red Sox trade RHP Quinn Priester for draft pick, prospect

Originally regarded as a potential contender for the Red Sox starting rotation, Quinn Priester is now out of the picture entirely.

The Red Sox announced Monday morning that they’ve traded the 24-year-old right-hander to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for minor league outfielder Yophery Rodriguez, a Competitive Balance Round A selection in the 2025 MLB Draft, and a player to be named later or cash considerations.

The draft pick acquired is expected to be the No. 33 overall pick, which will come right after the end of the first round.

Originally acquired at the trade deadline last summer in exchange for former first-round pick Nick Yorke, Priester started the season at Triple-A Worcester and allowed two runs in four innings in his only start so far this year. The right-hander has recorded a 6.23 ERA in 21 MLB games, the majority of which came with the Pittsburgh Pirates prior to his arrival in Boston.

Priester made his only big league appearance with the Red Sox in last season’s regular season finale.

Rodriguez, 19, is ranked as Milwaukee’s No. 7 prospect by MLB.com. The left-handed hitter started the season at High-A and batted .417 (5 for 12) with three runs scored, one double and one triple through his first three games. Originally signed as an international free agent in January of 2023, the Dominican Republic native has hit .254 with 13 home runs and 19 stolen bases in 165 career minor league games.

With the trade the Red Sox 40-man roster is now at 39.
