ROUNDUP
Mike Loughnane returns home.
The son of current BC High basketball coach and former Northeastern legend Bill Loughnane, Loughnane announced that he will be transferring to Northeastern after spending the past two seasons at Davidson. The 6-foot-4 guard started 32 games for the Wildcats this past season, averaging 5.1 points, 2.5 assists and 2.2 rebounds a contest, while making nearly 38 percent of his shots from beyond the arc.
Loughnane played his high school ball for his father at BC High where he was a two-time All-Scholastic. As a senior, he was named to the Boston Herald Dream Team after averaging 27 points, five rebounds and four assists a game in leading the Eagles to an undefeated season and the Div. 1 state title.
BASEBALL
In nonleague play, Tommy Crowley got the win going six innings and giving up just two runs while striking out eight as Whitman-Hanson defeated Bridgewater-Raynham 5-2. … Brock Winslow (4-for-4, three runs) and Matt Burt (2-for-2, three runs) were perfect at the plate, while Tommy Guenette, Amir Cartagena and Drew Taylor each homered for Bishop Stang (1-0) in a 12-2 win over Nauset in five innings. … Down by six runs early, Nate Lee (home run, double, two RBI), Jamison Ford (home run, two RBI) and Adam Sparacio (two RBI) powered Swampscott (1-0) to a 12-7 comeback win over Northeast.
Sam Schoenberg and Jayden Hayes each scored twice, Holliston plated five runs in the third inning, and Arav Prajapati fanned five over four shutout innings to lead Holliston over Tri-Valley League foe Hopkinton, 7-4.
In the Golden Tornado Club First Pitch Classic championship, freshman Davante Layne was 3-for-4 with three runs and three stolen bases as Malden cruised to a 12-2 victory over Lynn Tech/KIPP Academy.
Lukas Poirier tossed six shutout innings of five-hit ball and added two hits at the dish, pairing with a big day at the plate from Will Holloway (three hits, two RBI) to lead Shawsheen (1-0) over Mystic Valley, 10-0, in Commonwealth Athletic Conference action.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Charlotte DeMaio collected five tallies and four ground balls as Westwood doubled up on nonleague opponent Franklin 12-6. … Avery Laundry scored four times while Chloe Puzzo and Cecelia Tripp each netted hat tricks as Swampscott (2-0) defeated Lynnfield, 15-11. … Elly Thomas’ goal and four assists put her over 200 career points, pairing with four goals from Erin Walsh to power Hull in a 7-6 win against Plymouth South. … Abby Bradley had six goals and Jayleigh Howarth finished with five goals as Apponequet rolled over Middleboro 18-3. …Jillian Martin recorded four goals, one assist, and nine draw controls as Chelmsford defeated Longmeadow 11-6.
In a Bay State League matchup, Caitlyn Naughton netted six goals and had one assist while Ava MacLean added another four goals as Walpole came up with a 21-4 victory over Braintree.
BOYS LACROSSE
Two goals apiece from Charlie Thurlow and Jack McCavanagh helped Manchester-Essex get just enough to edge Swampscott, 5-4, in nonleague action. … Kenny Wisniewski collected six goals and four assists while Will Levrault added four tallies and two helpers as Apponequet (2-0) cruised over Middleboro 20-6.
SOFTBALL
In nonleague action, Elsie Testa went the distance with six strikeouts while Maddie McDonald went 3-for-3 with an RBI as Abington (2-0) topped Whitman-Hanson 3-1.
In a Cape and Islands League game, Charleigh Hicks tallied six runs on four hits, including a two-run homerun, as Dennis-Yarmouth topped Martha’s Vineyard 22-3.
Sam Bouchard led the Westport offense, batting 4-for-5 with two doubles and five RBI to power an 18-6, six-inning win over Norfolk Aggie in Mayflower League play.
Addy Walls had a complete game with 14 strikeouts as Hopkinton shut out Holliston, 11-0, in a Tri-Valley League game.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Tuto Sampaio erupted for 19 kills, four aces and nine digs to anchor Winchester in a 3-2 Middlesex League win over Arlington. … Nadav Vachtel accrued 15 points from the service line and had seven kills for Lexington in a 3-0 sweep of Woburn.
In the Dual County League, Parth Pawar collected 26 assists and Caleb Handel tallied 12 kills as Acton-Boxboro swept Boston Latin 3-0.
