Boston weather: City expected to see more snow, seasonal winter temperatures in coming week

Boston will see another round of winter weather in the coming week, with some snow, frosty winds and a short cold snap mid-week, according to National Weather Service forecasts.

“Monday will probably feel the warmest, with a high of 38 degrees and those southwesterly breezes,” said NWS meteorologist Kyle Pederson. “And then Thursday looks like the coldest day, with a high of only 24 degrees, and it looks like it’s going to be windy, around 20 to 25 miles per hour. That’s going to bring that feels-like temperature down to single digits on Thursday.”

The week is expected to start off within seasonal winter temperatures, with highs in upper 30s through Wednesday. Lows start to drop Tuesday night, according to NWS forecasts, dipping into the high teens through Friday night.

The cold snap is expected to last just for Thursday, according to the weather service, with the high Friday returning to high 30s.

“Often normal for high temperatures of time of year is 36 degrees,” said Pederson. “It looks like most of this week, we will be around that normal value, except for Thursday, where it’ll be colder.”

Chilly gusts of wind are forecast to remain throughout the week, making temperatures feel colder. Gusts from 23 to 28 miles per hour are expected to be felt through Friday as Southwest to Northwest winds blow through the city. Most of the work week is expected to remain sunny or partly cloudy, NWS forecasts.

“There could be some snow showers on Tuesday, but that’ll mainly be out west in the morning, maybe getting into the afternoon,” said Pederson. “And then Wednesday, we’re looking at a Clipper system coming through. However, we’re kind of still narrowing down the amount at this time, so right now, maybe a coating to an inch north of the Mass Pike.”

Forecasts show a chance of rain returning after 4 p.m. on Friday, and another preliminary shot at snow Saturday night.
