Little Canada woman, 23, dies in custody at Sherburne County Jail

A 23-year-old Little Canada woman died in her cell at the Sherburne County Jail in Elk River on Tuesday, the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office said.

Tyrah Shawnice Davis was found unresponsive in her cell by jail staff about 6:06 a.m., the sheriff’s office said Wednesday. Lifesaving measures were administered by jail staff and Elk River paramedics, but she was pronounced dead.

Davis was booked into the Sherburne County Jail on Friday on a federal case, according to the jail’s online roster.

The death is being investigated by the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office and Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, which said no additional information would be released Wednesday.
